The excitement was palpable as the Goil PLC Greater Accra Regional Championship finals of the 2024 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) began on Friday.
Four schools—Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC), Achimota School, Accra Academy, and Ashaiman SHS—gathered for this highly anticipated event.
Held at Achimota School in Accra, each school came prepared and hopeful. Accra Academy entered with singing and dancing, confident about their chances. However, PRESEC, the 2023 Regional Champions, once again proved their academic strength by winning their sixth consecutive title with an impressive 46 points.
In the first round, Accra Academy took an early lead with 21 points, just 4 points ahead of PRESEC. Both Ashaiman SHS and Achimota School scored 15 points each.
The second round saw PRESEC overtaking Accra Academy to claim first place with 30 points, while Accra Academy trailed with 27 points. Ashaiman SHS stayed in third with 15 points, and Achimota School followed with 13 points.
The competition grew fiercer in the third round. PRESEC widened their lead, securing 43 points.
Accra Academy was close behind with 37 points, while Ashaiman SHS and Achimota School scored 25 and 23 points, respectively.
In the final round, PRESEC cemented their dominance, finishing with a commanding 46 points. Accra Academy ended second with 37 points. Achimota School claimed third place after a tie-breaker against Ashaiman SHS, both initially scoring 29 points.

The victorious ‘Ɔdadeɛ boys’ celebrated joyfully as they left the auditorium. Despite their loss, both Achimota School and Ashaiman SHS remain optimistic about their performance in the upcoming National Championship.
