Established in 1950, the department of sociology in the University of Ghana is known to be the premier and yet popular department to have been established among all other departments in Legon
Since its inception, the department has been very vibrant with key focus of imbibing leadership skills into the young and bold
It is true that men have dominated the whims and caprice of positions in society since time immemorial as this reflects in most department organization’s in UG
However the face of this changed dating down to the 21st century as you would see many women climb the ladder of leadership with little or no hindrances
Popular Mary Oppong Hands over as Sociology Organizing Secretary, a new headline reads during a handling over ceremony yesterday at the department of Sociology in the University of Ghana

Under my office, “I sought to shatter the glass ceiling and demonstrate that women are equally capable and essential in leadership roles, thereby contributing to the growth and success of SOSA”.
“By taking on this position, I aimed to inspire and encourage my peers to step forward, recognizing the value of their perspectives and efforts in making SOSA” , she said
During the handling over ceremony, Mary informed how ineffective communication, and low teamwork affected several areas in performing her duties.
Motivated by God, family and dear friends, she sure to carry on other leadership when they came her way
