In an interview on “The Torch Light” program on Peace FM on March 18, 2025, Hon. Razak Hussein addressed the ongoing situation regarding the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) selection process for the Madina Constituency.
The conversation revealed significant tensions and raised important questions about transparency in the appointment process.
The interview began with Hon. Razak extending warm Ramadan greetings to Muslims across the community, particularly acknowledging Alhaji Seidu, the chief of Madina, and other opinion leaders.
When questioned about the unrest in the Madina Constituency, Hon. Razak attributed it to widespread disappointment among party grassroots supporters following the unexpected removal of his name from the shortlist of MCE candidates for the municipality.
According to Hon. Razak, his name had appeared consistently through the first three rounds of interviews but was conspicuously absent from the fourth list without clear explanation.
This development prompted party members to question the selection criteria, wondering whether decisions were based on competence, party loyalty, or other undisclosed factors. The sudden appearance of three new names on the shortlist further intensified the confusion and discontent among constituency members.
During the conversation, Hon. Razak highlighted his extensive service to the party, tracing his journey from Branch Secretary to his current position as Constituency Secretary. He emphasized that his contributions have been widely recognized not only by grassroots supporters and opinion leaders but also by members of the opposition party.
Despite expressing disappointment with the selection process, Hon. Razak maintained an optimistic outlook regarding President Mahama’s appointment strategy.
He noted the President’s apparent preference for appointing youth and rewarding loyalty and long service to the party, suggesting this might eventually work in his favor.
When pressed by the host, Mac Jerry, about whether he had received any explanation for his exclusion, Hon. Razak confided that the reasons provided were unsatisfactory and unconvincing.
He revealed that members of the selection committee had themselves confirmed he met all requirements, yet could not provide a coherent explanation for why his name was removed from the final shortlist.
Hon. Razak also offered insight into the broader delays affecting the announcement of the final Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) list nationwide. He attributed these delays to significant disparities between the formal vetting process and the practical realities on the ground, making final determinations particularly challenging.
He emphasized his understanding that an effective MCE must be someone who commands respect and can easily connect with the local population.
Throughout the interview, Hon. Razak maintained a respectful tone toward the appointment authority while clearly articulating his concerns about the selection process. He concluded by expressing his belief that his genuine intention to serve would ultimately be recognized, stating that “posterity will speak for me”
