The enforcement team of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has locked the Chinese retail shop, China Mall, and its warehouses on the Spintex Road and Ashaiman in the Greater Accra region.

The action follows the inability of the company to fix their tax electronic collection system to enable the GRA to access the data.

On October 1, 2022, the GRA launched the electronic VAT system to prevent revenue leakages and to determine businesses’ actual income.

According to the Accra Area Enforcement Manager, Joseph Annan, the action has become necessary after many attempts to get the company to comply with the law failed.

“This is only to help them fix their system for electronic VAT. We’ve worked with them on several occasions to fix this simple system. The location will be sealed and locked until they have complied with the law. “This is part of the enforcement exercise that we are carrying out at all of the China Mall locations,” he informed Joy Business.

The mall’s management became aware of the situation and closed the shopping centre before the enforcement team arrived.

Mr. Annan stated that the GRA will expand the exercise to all China Mall branches in the country.
