In the lead-up to the 2023 elections, Governor Nyesom Wike declared that he had accepted PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, but that he would never accept Sen. Iyorcha Ayu to continue serving as the party’s national chairman.

In addition, Wike claimed that genuine attempts to amicably resolve the impasse in the PDP were being thwarted by rent-seekers in the party while hosting all state and national assembly candidates, local government chairmen, and Cross River State PDP governorship candidates at his private residence in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, on Wednesday night.

Speaking to his audience while South-South National Vice Chairman Chief Dan Orbih was present, Wike blamed the party’s perceived “hyenas and rent seekers” for their stubbornness and opposition to justice and fairness.
