The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) chairman, Ofosu-Ampofo, says the party is putting plans in place to secure a massive win in the upcoming presidential general election in 2024.
Samuel Ofosu Ampofo claims that the NDC has started to build its foundation at the polling station level in order to protect its votes in Ghana’s next 2024 presidential general elections.
He argues that this is to prevent the party from being tricked in future elections, and that the NDC did not lose the 2020 election, but that the Supreme Court failed to sustain their plea.
The NDC appealed to the Supreme Court after the 2020 election results were revealed, alleging vote stuffing.
However, a nine-member panel of the Apex Court dismissed the petition and confirmed President Akufo-Addo as the legitimate winner of the 2020 presidential general election.
Prominent party members, however, have expressed displeasure with the Supreme Court for failing to sustain their appeal, suggesting political prejudice on the part of the judges in Ghana.
He further noted that the NDC won the 2020 presidential general elections; thus, the NDC party would not go to court again and that it would now bear its own burden due to how the 2020 election petition was ruled out by the Supreme Court judges.
“That election was never lost to us. The Supreme Court was the one that ruled against us. That is why we have stated that we would not file a petition with the Supreme Court in 2024, but we are increasing the party’s foundation at the polling station level “, he explained.
“The emphasis and work to improve the structures of the party that we have been able to gain branch executives and it is now left with constituency executives, we are developing the party as a war machinery that we can use to win the 2024 elections,” he stated.
What Kind Of War Machinery Is NDC Talking About?
To clarify the assertions made by the NDC party Chairperson, Ofosu-Ampofo, and the NDC party leaders, they are making a bold statement that the 2022 presidential election will be the greatest political battle Ghana has ever witnessed. Hence, they won’t allow the New Patriotic Party to rig the 2022 election as they did in the previous one.
