The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) G5 and their followers are doubtful about attending the inauguration of the party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar, on Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
As per the reports, Atiku’s choice to keep pandering to the crowd instead of tackling the problem has irritated Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike’s group.
Thus, according to the findings, Wike’s supporters have held fast in their demand that the party’s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, resign in order to facilitate genuine peaceful coexistence.
The group decided on September 21 to withdraw from Atiku’s campaign committee unless Ayu steps down.
According to Chief Bode George, who read the press statement following the meeting, Senator Iyorchia Ayu must step down as the party’s national chairman in order for an interim chairman of Southern Nigerian descent to step up and guide the party on the national campaign.
With the exception of Ayu’s departure, the team had continued to reject all further attempts by some party organs to appease them.
When the Adulphus Wabara-led Board of Trustees of the party visited them recently, members of the squad were reportedly steadfast in their demand that Ayu leaves before there could be peace.
According to a campaign source, it was not necessary to ask the Rivers Governor if he would attend Atiku’s campaign launch in Uyo on Monday.
