Davido

David Adedeji, better known by his stage name Davido, is a Nigerian-American singer, songwriter, and record producer who was born on November 21, 1992. His music fuses worldwide pop with traditional African themes.

Davido released “Dami Duro,” the second single from his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo, in 2012 and went on to win the Next Rated Award at The Headies (2012). He recorded several successful singles between 2013 and 2015, and in January 2016, he agreed to a record deal with Sony Music.

After that, he started the record label Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), which has signed artists like Mayorkun, Liya, Peruzzi, and Dremo. Davido and Sony’s RCA Records inked a record deal in July 2016.

Son of Mercy, a five-track EP featuring the singles “Gbagbe Oshi,” “How Long,” and “Coolest Kid in Africa,” was released in October 2016.

Due to problems with creative autonomy, Davido renegotiated his contract with Sony in April 2017. Later that year, he released five songs, including “If” and “Fall.” While “Fall” became the longest-charting Nigerian pop song in Billboard history, “If” sparked global social media engagement.

At the 2017 MOBO Awards, Davido was named the Best African Act. He made “If” available on February 17, 2017. Tekno, who penned the song as a ghostwriter for Davido, produced it. The Recording Industry of South Africa awarded the song a diamond certification, denoting shipments of 200,000 copies.

“If” won Best Pop Single and Song of the Year at The Headies 2018. In a review for OkayAfrica, Sabo Kpade characterised the song as a “slow burner” with an “unfussy beat that sounds hollowed out and isn’t overloaded with instruments.”

Director Q and Tunde Babalola produced the music video for “If,” which was filmed in London. To create a capsule collection based on “If,” Davido teamed up with menswear designer Orange Culture.

Wizkid

Wizkid is the stage name of Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, a Nigerian singer and songwriter born on July 16, 1990. One of the largest and most well-known African musicians of all time, Wizkid is a well-known personality in the contemporary Afrobeats music scene.

He and The Glorious Five (5), a group he and a few of his church buddies founded, published a joint CD with him when he was 11 years old. He started recording music at that age.

Wizkid got a record contract with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment in 2009. (E.M.E). The lead song off his debut studio album, Superstar (2011), which also produced the singles “Tease Me/Bad Guys” and “Don’t Dull,” “Holla at Your Boy,” brought him into the spotlight later.

His second studio album, Ayo, which he self-titled, was released in September 2014. Six singles were released in support of the album, one of which was “Jaiye Jaiye.”

After his contract with E.M.E expired, Wizkid departed. Following his collaboration with Drake on the hit song “One Dance,” which topped the charts in 14 more nations in addition to the US Billboard Hot 100, Wizkid gained popularity on a global scale in 2016.

Starboy Entertainment was founded by Wizkid in March 2013. He told Silverbird Television’s Yvonne Ekwere that he intended to sign fresh performers to the company. Maleek Berry and Legendury Beatz were the first artists Wizkid signed to the label; Berry later joined as an in-house producer. Wizkid signed L.A.X to Starboy as its first recording act in August 2013. DJ Tunez was hired as the company’s resident DJ in February 2016, and Efya, R2Bees, and Mr. Eazi joined the label in May 2016.

As a result of his contributions to the Nigerian music scene, Wizkid has achieved a number of things, including his first-ever Grammy Award for Best Music Video for his starring role in Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl.”

He has won three BET Awards, three Soul Train Awards, three Billboard Awards, two iHeartRadio Music Awards, and two MOBO Awards, making him the most decorated African musician overall (6).
