St. Francis Xavier SHS is determined to regain its former glory in the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) after securing a spot at the national level with an impressive win.
Despite being two-time finalists, the school has faced challenges in recent years, failing to capture their first NSMQ trophy. The boys from Upper West are hopeful that this year will be different and they can finally achieve victory.
The atmosphere was electric at the Wa regional library when St. Francis Xavier SHS and Queen of Peace SHS secured their places at the nationals.
Supporters of St. Francis Xavier SHS celebrated with cheers and chants, invoking the support of their predecessors.
The school has had a tough journey in the national competition, last reaching the grand finale in 2014. Over the past decade, their best performance was reaching the quarterfinals.
However, after a solid 62-point win, they are set to re-establish themselves as the pride of Upper West in the competition and aim for their first national trophy.
Queen of Peace SHS also celebrated their success.
The school defeated Wa SHTS, Wa Islamic SHS, and Kaleo SHS to secure their spot. Although they had a slow start, trailing behind Kaleo SHS in the first round, they turned the contest around and won with 32 points.
Both schools are now focused on making a strong impact at the national level and restoring their status in the NSMQ.
