In a humorous and reflective moment, the Methodist Senior High School (SHS) from Sekondi have expressed their disappointment after failing to qualify for the National Science and Math Quiz (NSMQ) 2024.

This marked the first time the school had not progressed to the national stage, leading to some light-hearted comments from the contestants about their preparation.

Prior to the competition, the students had exuded confidence, likening their readiness to that of a ship built to withstand any storm.

They were determined to prove themselves as serious contenders, stating, “We are more prepared than the Titanic ship.

We can’t even sink.” However, as the rounds unfolded, their performance did not align with their expectations.

By the end of the contest, Methodist SHS managed to score only 12 points, finishing at the bottom of the rankings behind Fiaseman SHS, which topped the contest with 50 points.

Reflecting on their performance, the contestants humorously remarked that they had come with “ingredients for palm soup” only to realize that the competition was akin to preparing “light soup.” One contestant noted,

“We interchanged our X and our Ys,” suggesting a mix-up in their understanding of the questions.

This metaphor highlighted their realization that they had not adequately prepared for the specific challenges of the quiz.

Despite the disappointment, the students remained optimistic about their future participation.

They acknowledged the need for better preparation next year, stating, “Next year, we’ll come well prepared.”

Their determination to learn from this experience and return stronger reflects the resilience and spirit of the Methodist SHS team.

As they look forward to the next edition of the NSMQ, the Methodist SHS students are committed to refining their strategies and ensuring they are ready to tackle the challenges ahead.

Their experience serves as a reminder that preparation and adaptability are key components of success in any competitive environment.
