After EC’s disqualification of Guru from the ongoing UGSRC Elections, Maradona Yeboah Adjei sought for an injunction to be placed on the entire electioneering process until all matters are resolved.
After a hearing on August 23, 2024, the UGSRC Judicial Board has granted an indefinite injunction on all electoral processes related to the 2024 UGSRC elections.
This decision comes after Guru filed for an interim injunction.
For the purpose of clarity, injunction here means ”a judicial order restraining a person from continuing an action threatening or invading the rights of another person.”
We are over 70%, UG nonresident students cries for Guru and Lawrence’s comeback after EC’s disqualification
It would be recalled that on August 16th, 2024, Guru and one Lawrence, both president and vice presidential candidate respectfully, were disqualified from the 2024 UGSRC Election, citing Article 30(1)(a) of the SRC constitution.
That the two were nonresident students in the University of Ghana and that according to the provision of the SRC constitution, nonresidential status makes an individual ineligible to run for SRC office
This has created a lot of confusion among students at the University of Ghana.
As a result of this, nonresident students have begun a fight against this ruling by the EC boss.
Scores of students have asserted that ”the EC knew the amended constitution, yet he chose to delay the electoral process by disqualifying the icons so they would go through the hard way”, they said.
On August 23, 2024, it was announced that Guru’s interim injunction on the 2024 UGSRC Election has been granted until further notice.
