The West African Examinational Council has announced the release of the 2024 BECE results to the general public

RELEASE OF PROVISIONAL RESULTS FOR THE BASIC EDUCATION CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (BECE) FOR SCHOOL AND PRIVATE CANDIDATES, 2024


The West African Examinations Council (the Council) wishes to inform its numerous publics that it has released provisional results of candidates who sat for the BECE for both School and Private Candidates, 2024.

The Council will despatch the results of school candidates to their respective schools through the Metropolitan/Municipal/District Directors of Education.

The results for Private Candidates can be accessed at the Council’s website www.waecgh.org.
School candidates who so desire, may also access their results online at the Council’s website.

STATISTICS

A total of 569,236 candidates, comprising 282,703 males and 286,533 females from nineteen thousand, five hundred and five (19,505) participating schools entered for the school examination. This includes fifty-nine (59) candidates with visual impairment, two hundred and sixty-three (263) with hearing impairment and one hundred and sixty-one (161) candidates with other test accommodation needs.

The examination was conducted at Two thousand, one hundred and twenty-three (2,123) centres across the country.

Out of the total number, three thousand, eight hundred and forty-five (3,845) candidates were absent
The BECE for Private Candidates recorded a total entry figure of one thousand, three hundred and ninety (1,390) candidates.

This was made up of seven hundred and fifty (750) males and six hundred and forty (640) females.

Fifteen (15) centres, mostly in the regional capitals, were used for the BECE for Private Candidates Out of the total number of candidates who entered for the examination, fifty-seven (57) were absent.

EXAMINATION MALPRACTICES


Following the completion of investigations into several cases of irregularity detected during the conduct of the examination and marking of scripts, the Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee for the BECE at its 35th Meeting held on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, approved as follows:

  • Cancellation of Subject Results of 377 school candidates and 3 private candidates for the offence of bringing foreign materials into the examination hall or colluding with other candidates;
  • Cancellation of Entire Results of 41 school candidates and 1 private candidate;
    Withholding of Entire Results of 33 school candidates and 3 private candidates;
    Meanwhile, some subject results of candidates from 149 schools have been withheld for reported irregularities.
  • The withheld results may be cancelled or released based on the outcome of investigations.
    CAUTION
    The Council wishes to caution all stakeholders to be wary of fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for a fee. Candidates are to note that WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated.
    CONCLUSION
    The Council expresses its appreciation to stakeholders especially the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, the Security Agencies, Heads of Schools, Supervisors, Invigilators, Examiners and all who in diverse ways supported it in the successful conduct of the examination and release of results.
