A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Nataro, has advised Vice President Kashim Shettima to resign ahead of the 2027 elections, citing growing doubts about his relevance within the Tinubu administration.
Nataro, a former governorship aspirant in Kebbi State, said ongoing internal discussions within the party suggest that Shettima no longer enjoys the confidence of President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking in the wake of the controversy surrounding the vice president’s position, Nataro said, “If he is grateful for what Tinubu did for him by picking him up as running mate in 2022 and leaving out those who worked for the party, I can boldly say that if I were in Shettima’s shoes, I would resign from office.”
He added that the move should not be based on hard feelings but as a gesture of goodwill and commitment to the stability of the Renewed Hope Agenda and the nation’s democracy.
The remarks come amid speculation about potential changes to the APC’s presidential ticket for 2027, particularly after meetings in Gombe and other parts of the North where party stakeholders reportedly discussed alternative options for the vice presidency.
