Gabriel Suswam, former governor of Benue and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared that the planned opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections poses a serious threat to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Suswam warned that the APC should be “worried” about the momentum behind the emerging alliance.
His words: “This is not the first time you are going to have a scenario such as this.
“Nigerians, based on the economic policies of this administration, are very dissatisfied. There is no Nigerian that is not affected by the economic policies of this administration.
“I believe that the coalition will be the party to beat, and so if I am in the ruling party, I should be worried about it.”
Suswam’s comments come same day after President Bola Tinubu dismissed the coalition as a gathering of “internally displaced politicians” during a visit to Nasarawa state.
In response, the former senator recalled how PDP leaders similarly dismissed the APC in the build-up to the 2015 elections.
“We were doing the same thing when we were in government — we dismissed APC completely. People didn’t give them any chance at all, but they won that election,” he said.
He noted that the credibility of the coalition would depend on the caliber of individuals involved and warned that the APC could face internal threats, as some of its members are showing interest in the alliance.
