The Senate has confirmed Chibudom Nwuche, former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, as chairman of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC).
Also confirmed was Usoro Offiong Akpabio from Akwa Ibom as managing director of the commission.
The confirmation followed the presentation of the report of the committee on the South-South Development Commission, chaired by Benson Konbowei, senator representing Bayelsa Central.
Presenting the report during plenary on Thursday, Konbowei said the nominees had satisfied the necessary criteria for appointment and were found competent to serve.
However, Tijani Yahaya Kaura, the nominee from the north-west, was not cleared.
Kaura failed to submit the required documents and did not appear before the screening committee.
Other confirmed members of the SSDC board include Larry Odey (Cross River), Charles Zuofa (Bayelsa), Nkereuwem Ebong (Akwa Ibom), Chika Chinedu (Rivers), Femi Oise (Edo), and Charles Sylvester Enukhowhate (Delta).
Also confirmed were Tabitha Iliya Sallah (north-east), Yusuf Rasaq Amao (north-central), Joseph Mmamal (south-east), and Bukonola Braimoh (south-west).
Confirmed executive directors are Marcus Nie Eji, executive director of projects (Rivers); Aganaba Preye Steven, executive director of social and human capital development (Bayelsa); Timi Alari Ayibatonye, executive director of corporate services (Delta); Joseph Ugheoke, executive director of commercial and environmental development (Edo); and Sony Abang, executive director of finance (Cross River).
