The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the participation of members of the party at the adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by the opposition coalition.

The party in a statement issued on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba said it is yet to take a stand on the issues surrounding the opposition coalition.

Recall that Atiku Abubakar, a two-time presidential candidate for the PDP had led the opposition coalition aimed at removing the President Bola Tinubu-led administration from power to adopt ADC as its official party.

Atiku was at the meeting to adopt the ADC alongside other key members of the PDP including former governors, former ministers, serving and past lawmakers among others.

However, the PDP stated that it is only interested in fortifying unity among party members ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ologunagba also debunked claims that the party leadership has asked its members to join the coalition.

He said, “For the avoidance of doubt, the NWC states in clear terms that the PDP has not taken any official position on the issue of the coalition.

“The PDP is for now focused on building and consolidating on attained unity, stability and strengthening of its structures and capacity to play its roles as the leading opposition Party determined to return to power in 2027,” Ologunagba stated.

In addition, the PDP spokesperson noted that the party is working towards a successful National Convention which will further revamp and reposition it for the task ahead.

He said, “Nevertheless, as a major opposition Party with very strong presence and bond with Nigerians across the country, the PDP restates that it remains open to working with other well-meaning like-minded citizens in the collective effort to rescue our nation from the stranglehold of the rudderless and insensitive All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration.

“Our Party appreciates Nigerians for their interest, solidarity and loyalty to the PDP brand and reassures that all machineries are being put in place to re-activate the PDP winning ways ahead of the 2027 general elections,” he said.
