Emperor Jarrett Tenebe, chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state, has dismissed the newly formed coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), predicting its failure at the polls.
Tenebe, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Benin City, described the coalition as a “non-starter,” citing the involvement of political elders whom he said no longer hold influence in Edo politics.
He said the trio of Tom Ikimi, a former minister of foreign affairs; Odigie-Oyegun, a former APC national chairman; and Senator Oserheimen Osunbor, a former governor of Edo state, could not deliver electoral success in the state.
“The so-called coalition will fail seeing the likes of Tom Ikimi, the very old Chevrolet that sucks a lot of fuel,” Tenebe said.
He also criticised Osunbor and Oyegun, claiming they had been politically displaced long ago.
“Prof Oserheimen Osunbor was trashed by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and Odigie-Oyegun, who is completely irrelevant in Edo state politics now,” he added.
The APC chairman’s comments come amid growing interest in the ADC’s opposition alliance, which has drawn in prominent figures from across party lines, including disillusioned PDP and APC stalwarts seeking to challenge the dominance of the major parties.
