St. John’s School has emerged victorious in the GOIL PLC Western Zonal Championship of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) 2024.

They defeated Archbishop Potter Girls and Shama Senior High School to claim the zonal title.

St. John’s School progressed to the grand finale after winning their semi-final matches against Adiembra and Fiaseman SHS, scoring a total of 41 points.

The 2022 champions, Shama SHS, secured the first slot to the finals by defeating St. Joseph’s, St. Mary’s Boys SHS, and defending champions Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS), with a score of 37 points.

Archbishop Potter Girls faced stiff competition to qualify for the finals, winning by a slim 2-point margin of 26 points against Amenfiman SHS (24 points) and Sefwi Wiawso SHS (19 points).

In the final round, Shama SHS took the lead at the end of the first round, leaving St. John’s and Archbishop Potter Girls behind with 11 points each.

However, by the end of the second round, St. John’s emerged as the group leader with 17 points and further solidified their position with 27 points at the end of the third round.

In the final round, St. John’s answered two riddles on the third clue, earning them an additional 6 points, which was enough for them to lift the trophy with a total of 33 points.

Archbishop Potter Girls finished second with 26 points, and Shama SHS came in third with 23 points.

St. John’s School now looks forward to representing the Western Zone at the national competition in the coming weeks, hoping to prove their dominance on the national stage.
