Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former aide to President Bola Tinubu has suggested that the two-time presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar should not aspire to contest for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027.

Baba-Hakeem urged the former vice president to rather consider serving as a father figure by bringing in new perspectives and younger leaders into the planned coalition.

He also stated that other political figures have also been on the frontline of the coalition aimed at ousting President Bola Tinubu should relegate themselves to the backrlgeound.

Baba-Ahmed said people like Rotimi Amaechi and Nasir El-Rufai, should also step back from leading roles and allow younet and vibrant politicians to become the faces of the coalition.

Baba-Ahmed said this during an interview on AIT’s Focus Nigeria.

He arguesld that older politicians who have been deeply involved in power should make way for more energetic and less power-exposed individuals.

He also questioned the effectiveness of the current opposition coalition while querying what their long-term vision is beyond creating an alternative to the ruling party.

“You have a very prominent member of the PDP, a founding member of the PDP. A former vice president for eight years, he contested three times – Vice President Atiku – a highly respected person.

“I think he should be a hero in democracy but I don’t think he should aspire even lead this country. I think it should be a father figure.

“He shouldn’t be involved in the building of an alternative to APC but he should bring new blood, new perspectives and say the future belongs to you. We will stand behind. Amechi and El-Rufai should do the same thing, if he can handle his ego should part with him,” Baba-Ahmed said.
