The Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, has arrested the prime suspect in the murder of Nelson Adepoyigi, a ward chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The arrest was announced on Monday by Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, commander of Amotekun, during a press briefing at the corps’ headquarters in Akure.
According to Adeleye, the suspect confessed to the crime and led operatives to a forest where some of the victim’s family’s stolen items were recovered.
He also revealed that a total of 32 suspects were arrested across the state’s 18 local government areas for various crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, theft, and illegal grazing.
“In the last two weeks in Ondo State, we have ensured that no ransom was paid for any kidnapping,” Adeleye said.
Ten of the suspects were arrested for kidnapping in forests around Ute-Owo, Jugbere, and Ipele in the Owo axis, he said. The victims were instrumental in identifying the suspects, whose ages range from 18 to 45.
The kidnap suspects include: Ali (35), Habeeb (30), Bobade (45), Shedrak (25), Adamu (25), Adelewa (20), Suleiman (40), Mohamed (20), Suleiman Isiaka (18), and Husseini (18).
Three others were arrested for armed robbery, including a 23-year-old named Michael apprehended in Odigbo, and Lawal (37), who was arrested near the Powerline axis for forgery and aiding robbery.
Adeleye also reported calm in previously volatile areas like Ago-Oyinbo and Ago-Dada, attributing the peace to effective collaboration between Amotekun and other security agencies.
He added that only one arrest was made for violating the state’s anti-open grazing law during the period under review, while no cases of human trafficking were recorded.
