BSW founder Sahra Wagenknecht attacks the SPD after the end of the coalition in Brandenburg. “You can’t reveal more to your voters,” she told ZEIT. A government is being “shredded” in order to switch to “business as usual” with the CDU. “Apparently this election fraud has been prepared for weeks,” said Wagenknecht.

Brandenburg’s Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (SPD) had the coalition with the BSW declared over in the morning. Several BSW MPs had previously resigned from the parliamentary group, including Deputy Prime Minister Robert Crumbach. Crumbach is like the previous BSW MP Jouleen Gruhn switched to the SPD parliamentary group. In her statement, Wagenknecht did not comment on the departures from the BSW faction.

Wagenknecht further said that it was not the BSW that ended this coalition, but “those who would rather do politics with the CDU against the vote of the majority of citizens in Brandenburg.” Anyone who does this shouldn’t be surprised if more and more people lose “all trust in politics.”

Woidke blames internal disputes at BSW for the end of the coalition

Woidke had blamed the internal party disputes within the BSW for the end of the coalition. “There was no contentious dispute, the dispute was not between the parties here, but within the BSW. With the toxic result that we can look at here,” said Woidke.

The Prime Minister wants to continue governing with a minority government for the time being. The ministers should remain in office. Woidke said that no talks with the CDU about a new coalition are planned in the next few days. CDU parliamentary group leader Jan Redmann said that they would be ready if the SPD should ask for discussions.

After the state elections in 2024, the SPD and CDU Together, 44 out of 88 representatives in the state parliament and therefore no majority. With Crumbach and Gruhn switching to the SPD, a red-black coalition would now be possible.
