From the central low mountain range to Franconia and the Upper Palatinate, temperatures could even drop to -13 degrees in places.
Several Berlin clinics overloaded
Since Saturday night, slippery accidents in several Berlin hospitals have led to an overload of emergency rooms, operating rooms and intensive care units. The Evangelical Forest Hospital Spandau, the Evangelical Hospital Hubertus, the Evangelical Elisabeth Clinic and the Martin Luther Hospital are almost at critical capacity, said Johannesstift Diakonie. Broken bones caused by falls on slippery roads were the most common diagnosis.
The large number of patients and limited capacities led to significantly longer waiting times. Patients with non-life-threatening symptoms were therefore asked to go to their family doctor or contact the medical on-call service. Acute emergencies would of course be treated immediately and at any time.
Two dead in winter storm in Sweden
Northern Europe is also suffering from severe winter weather with storms and storms. Two people died in winter storm Johannes in Sweden on Saturday. According to police, a man was hit by a falling tree near the Kungsberget ski resort. He therefore succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The storm also caused disruption to air traffic. The airport in Kittilä, northern Finland, was reportedly forced to suspend operations after a passenger plane and a smaller aircraft veered off the runway due to strong gusts of wind. Nobody was injured.
