National Coordinator, Rotary Action Group for Family and Aids Prevention, District 9110, Rotary International, Bola Oyebade, has called on Nigerians to take advantage of this edition of Rotary Family Health Days to undergo screening and know their health status.

Oyebade who made the call yesterday at the official flag-off of Rotary Family Health Week in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, running from today to April said the screening would cover polio vaccination, various screening, including malaria, hepatitis B and C, all forms of cancer such as prostrate, breast; HIV AIDS, sight, among others.

Oyebade said the exercise would gulp not less than $200,000 and assured that sponsorship would be sought for cases that would need referrals.

“We have the approval of the Federal Ministry of Health and we have been given the MoU to work with all the state Ministry of Health and Primary Health Centres across the country.

“Our partnership with the government is only in the area of approval as Rotary is the one doing the funding of the programme that extends to difficult areas such as Bornu and Sokoto states” he said.

The District Governor, District 9110 made up of Lagos and Ogun states, Ifeyinwa Rita Ejezie, said the opportunity would allow many Nigerians, who cannot afford the cost of medical charges, to know their health status, adding that Rotary also equipped health centres.

Dr Mariam Oshodi, who represented the Permanent Secretary and Chief Dental Officer, Dr Dayo Lajide, delivered lecture on the importance of maintaining health.
