There have been some reports saying that Ghana was removed from the US Visa Waiver Program (VWP).

However, this information is not correct. Ghana has never been part of the VWP.

The VWP is a special program that allows citizens of certain countries to visit the United States for up to 90 days without needing a visa.

As of 2025, Ghana, along with other African countries like Nigeria and South Africa, is not included in the list of eligible countries for the VWP.

The US government chooses countries for the VWP based on strong diplomatic relationships and strict border security standards.

For a country to be part of the VWP, it must meet certain requirements, such as having low rates of visa overstays and strong security measures in place. The 2025 VWP includes 40 countries, with Romania being the newest country to join the program.

Ghanaian citizens will continue to need a visa to travel to the United States for tourism, business, or other purposes.

This means they must apply for a visa at a US embassy or consulate before their trip. The US and Ghana have a strong relationship, and both countries are working together on many important issues.

However, Ghana’s inclusion in the VWP would require meeting the specific criteria set by the US government.

In summary, Ghana was never part of the US Visa Waiver Program, so it could not have been removed. Ghanaian travelers will still need to follow the usual visa application process to visit the US
