I read one for the first time in the summer of 2019 novel by Mick Herron, Slow Horses, Volume 1 of his series about a few spectacularly failed, discarded British spies. Mick Herron writes elegantly, precisely and with dark humor, in Slow Horses I didn’t find any unnecessary fat, just narrative muscle, and at the same time the book is a total page turner. I couldn’t find the technical key to it, because the novel never spreads the typical action, suspense or thriller rush with extensive, urgent descriptions of the same last seconds, which quickly annoys me. slow horses, in the meantime also known as seriesreads more like this: breathe in deeply, breathe out violently… yikes? What was that?
