Ukraine: Corruption investigations against several Ukrainian MPs

In the Ukraine The Anti-Corruption Office (Nabu) is investigating several members of the country’s parliament on suspicion of bribery. The authority announced on Telegram withshe had exposed an “organized criminal group” with sitting MPs among its members. They received “systematically illegal benefits” for their voting behavior.

It was also said that the Nabu investigators tried to search the offices of parliamentary committees. But they were prevented from doing so by security forces.

Only at the end of November was Zelensky’s close colleague and head of the presidential office Andriy Yermak resigned due to suspicion of corruption. Shortly beforehand, Nabu and the anti-corruption public prosecutor’s office had informed about searches in Jermak’s apartment and did not mention any specific allegations against Jermak. Shortly before, however, a corruption scandal surrounding the Ukrainian energy company Energoatom had become public.

EU Commission spokeswoman spoke of effective anti-corruption measures

The EU viewed the developments at the time as: Signs of a functioning fight against corruption in the country. “We have great respect for the investigations that show that the anti-corruption authorities in Ukraine are doing their work,” said Commission spokeswoman Paula Pinho in November, referring to the investigations against Yermak.

The new corruption scandal is once again affecting Ukraine in an important phase of Russia’s war of aggression.
