Possible attack plans: Police call 21-year-old arrested man violent

The 21-year-old, who is suspected of having planned an attack in Magdeburg, is believed to be police violent. Saxony-Anhalt’s state police director Mario Schwan said this in a special meeting of the interior committee of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt.

The man showed a great interest in shooting training and weapons, said Schwan. He also got into arguments with classmates at vocational school because of his Muslim faith. There was an immediate danger to public safety, which is why the police had to act immediately, said the state police director.

According to Schwan, the 21-year-old is a Tajik citizen. After entering Germany in June 2024, the man initially lived in Lower Saxony. Then let him go Magdeburg where he completed training as a nursing specialist from March 2025.

The 21-year-old was taken into police custody in Magdeburg on Friday. This was intended to prevent an attack on large crowds. The alleged plans could have an Islamist motivation. The man is currently in pre-trial detention at the Halle Correctional Facility. The Halle public prosecutor’s office has not yet initiated a formal investigation.
