Dress code for Christmas: Does the family have to dress up for Christmas?

My grandfather died last year. He was a big Formula 1 fan and a gifted strudel baker, the oldest member of our family and our highest standard when it came to wardrobe: he wore a suit on public holidays, and on high holidays Christmas a three-piece suit. In order not to have to get married in his work shoes – he was a locksmith by trade – he once even sold his bicycle.

It remains to be seen whether the absence of my grandfather as a benchmark will drag down our festive appearance. But the so-called anchoring effect raises concerns and I plan to intervene.
