Katharina Dröge: Green group suggests “mobility guarantee” in rural areas

The leader of the Green Party in the Bundestag, Katharina Drögecalls for comprehensive public transport in rural regions. “We would like to promise people: ‘Everywhere in Germany, no matter where you live, a bus should run at least once an hour during the week, and at least every two hours on the weekend,'” Dröge told the dpa news agency. Citizens should get to the nearest middle center, “where there is a doctor, pharmacy, supermarkets and, in the best case, a train connection,” she added.

In very small villages, this “mobility guarantee for rural areas” would work with shared taxis, said Dröge. She also demanded that the Germany ticket should cost 49 euros again, as it initially did, and less in the long run. The price for the nationwide valid monthly ticket for local transport increases from 58 to 63 euros for the new year.

The Greens wanted to show that everyone could benefit from climate protection, said Dröge. “In a time of rising prices, we want to say to people: We are making life cheaper and the climate better.”
