On the Brandenburger’s residential property Anti-Semitism Commissioner Andreas Büttner, unknown people set fire to a shed. As Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke and Interior Minister René Wilke (both SPD) announced on Sunday, the state security agency of the Brandenburg State Criminal Police Office took over the investigation into the background and motive for the crime.
The police reported that on Sunday around 3:40 a.m. she found out about a fire in a shed on private property in a district of Templin. The alerted fire department fought the fire. Nobody was injured.
Hamas symbol on front door
An unconstitutional symbol was placed in the immediate vicinity of the adjacent shed. The background to the attack and the motive are the subject of further investigations. According to information from security circles, there should be a red triangle on the front door as a symbol of the Hamas have been applied.
The red triangle has often been shown during pro-Palestinian actions and is banned as a symbol of the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas. The symbol is used by Hamas and its supporters to mark targets.
Büttner: “I won’t let myself be intimidated.”
Anti-Semitism Commissioner Büttner told the dpa news agency: “My family was in the house at the time. We are not physically injured, but we are under the impression of a serious attack.” Büttner explained: “I will not be intimidated by this.”
Prime Minister Woidke condemned the incident in Templin in the Uckermark district “in the strongest possible terms”. “Extremism in any form must have no place in Brandenburg,” he explained. “Violence against people or things is and remains absolutely unacceptable.” Brandenburg Interior Minister Wilke explained that Büttner, as anti-Semitism commissioner, was “performing a special service to the country and its people.”
If the allegations are confirmed, it would be the second attack on Andreas Büttner since the beginning of his term in office. In August 2024, just two months after taking office, a right-wing extremist attack was carried out on his private car in Templin. Among other things, swastikas were scratched into the vehicle.
