According to a survey, the majority of doctors in Germany have experienced violence at work. According to the German Medical Journal, two out of three doctors have experienced violence at work. More than half of the 1,619 respondents said the situation had worsened in recent years.
According to the survey, in most cases doctors were verbally attacked, and in almost every second case there were physical attacks. Around 40 percent of those surveyed report psychological violence in the workplace, 16 percent report discrimination based on origin or religion. More than one in five people were temporarily restricted in their work as a result of the attacks, and ten percent of those affected were even unable to work as a result.
According to the survey, the perpetrators are predominantly men acting alone who visit medical facilities as patients. In around a third of cases, the attackers come from the patient’s environment.
