Kris Boyd has defended Rangers’ decision to cancel Couhaib Driouech’s £7 million signing.
The PSV winger was set to join the club, but the deal fell through after a medical revealed an injury.
This news disappointed fans who were eagerly anticipating his arrival.
However, former Rangers player Boyd believes the club made the right call.
He told the Scottish Sun: “If Rangers have spent £7m and then all of a sudden he’s come in and he’s injured for a few weeks, it’s the last thing that Rangers want or need.
“So I can totally understand that one, especially when it’s an injury. I don’t know what type of injury it is and Rangers might feel as if it could be potentially longer.
“And I don’t think Rangers are in a position right now to go spend £7m on somebody that could be a bit of time before they’re playing. That’s not good for anyone.”
The injury would have kept Driouech out of action for several weeks, making the signing unsuitable for the club.l.”lub.
“Especially the recruitment team because they’ve been battered from pillar to post, rightly so, but then if they go and sign an injured player then you know the first thing that people will say, ‘Oh by the way, we’ve signed him for £7m but he’s out for five, six weeks.’
