Brown University: Suspect in attack on elite university found dead


The suspect of the fatal attack at Brown University in the US state of Rhode Island has been found dead. He took his own life on Thursday, said Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez. Investigators found two firearms next to the man as well as evidence that matched the crime scene.

According to the US Federal Police FBI, the suspect’s body was discovered not far from Rhode Island in a warehouse in the northeastern state of New Hampshire. According to their own statements, the police were able to identify him through video recordings from a rental vehicle, followed the trail and thus obtained his personal details.

According to police, the suspect is a 48-year-old man. According to investigators, he is said to have been a lone perpetrator. According to the university president, the suspect was enrolled at Brown University from 2000 to 2001.

The motive remains unclear

The background to the crime remains unclear. “There are many unknown aspects as to the motive,” said Attorney General Peter F. Neronha.

The suspected perpetrator killed two students at Brown University over the weekend. Nine other people were injured. The suspect is said to have shot a professor at another university in the US state of Massachusetts on Monday, the public prosecutor’s office there announced at a press conference.
