Bundesliga, 15th matchday – Sunday: Mainz 05 draws at home against St. Pauli

1. FSV Mainz 05 – FC St. Pauli 0-0

FSV Mainz 05 has against FC St. Pauli missed the urgently needed victory in the relegation battle of the Bundesliga. Three days after successfully reaching the round of 16 of the Conference League, the Mainz team did not manage the home win they had hoped for in front of 33,000 spectators and are going into the short winter break as bottom of the table, four points behind St. Pauli.

The guests from Hamburg had four corners a good eight minutes after the start of the game, but none of them resulted in any chances to score. The Mainz fans didn’t see any real chances for their team to score in the entire first half. That was what St. Pauli got when Jackson Irvine shot at the Mainz goal, but 05 goalkeeper Daniel Batz saved the ball.

After the break, Mainz increased the pressure and had their first scoring opportunities through Dominik Kohr and Silvan Widmer. However, both missed the goal, so the visiting goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj did not have to intervene. Until the end of regular time, a direct shot from Widmer that went over the goal was the only other notable action. It wasn’t until injury time that Vasilj saved a shot from Armindo Sieb. In keeping with the overall low level, the game remained goalless until the end.
