The Justice Department has until Friday to release Epstein files
Trump is under increasing political pressure over the Epstein affair. He denies having close contacts with Jeffrey Epstein, while critics accuse his government of not having achieved comprehensive transparency, contrary to previous announcements. As things stand, the president has not been legally proven to have committed any personal misconduct.
Regardless of Trump’s stance, the US Congress passed it in mid-November with broad bipartisan support Epstein File Disclosure Act. Accordingly, the Justice Department must release “all non-classified records, documents, communications and investigative materials” by Friday. Excluded are documents related to ongoing investigations or related to national security. Experts assume that many passages could be blacked out in advance.
