FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino has announced he will resign in January. Bongino announced his decision on X – shortly after US President Donald Trump announced his resignation to reports. Bongino had “done a good job” and apparently wanted to return “to his show,” Trump said. Before his time at FBI Bongino hosted a right-wing podcast.

There he spread conspiracy theories that put a strain on his position in the FBI. Among other things, he claimed that pipe bombs found near party headquarters after the storming of the Capitol were planted there by the FBI itself – as an “inside job.” He walked back that claim after the FBI arrested a suspect in the case in December.
