France: Attacker injures three women with knife in Paris metro


A man injured three women with a knife in the Paris metro. The perpetrator was initially able to escape, but was caught early in the evening, according to the public prosecutor’s office.

According to the information, the perpetrator stabbed at the central République, Arts et Métiers and Opéra stations, all of which are on the same metro line. The man was identified on surveillance camera footage and thanks to the location of his cell phone north of Paris been arrested. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the 25-year-old had already been noticed several times in the past for crimes, including damage to property. He is now being investigated for attempted murder and bodily harm.

Interior Minister warns of danger on New Year’s Eve

Two of the injured women were taken to hospitals, the third reported herself to an emergency room. None of the women suffered life-threatening injuries.

France Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez congratulated on X the investigators who were able to arrest the suspect “thanks to the network of surveillance cameras and their exceptional knowledge of the area.”

Last week, Nuñez called for increased security measures ahead of New Year’s Eve celebrations across the country and called for maximum caution. Nuñez urged special caution for public transport. He spoke of a very high terrorist threat and a risk of disruption to public order. A visible and deterrent presence of security forces is therefore necessary.
