Statutory health insurance funds could keep contributions stable in the coming year. But what the coalition is keeping quiet about is that they will have to increase even more later.

Federal Minister of Health Nina Warken has made a promise and wants to keep it at all costs: contributions to statutory health insurance should not increase significantly in the coming year. With the agreement of the mediation committee of the Bundestag and Bundesrat on a savings package for the statutory health insurance funds, it has come a long way closer to this goal – but at a high price.
The fact that the coffers will be relieved of two billion euros next year is good news for Warken. The bad news is that what the health insurance companies save in 2026 will have to be added a year later. That’s part of compromisewhich the Mediation Committee agreed on and which the two chambers of parliament will vote on on Friday.
