Middle East: USA carries out strikes on dozens of targets in Syria


The US military carried out air strikes on dozens of Islamic State (IS) targets on Friday Syria flown. Syria wants to step up the fight against IS

In Syria, the government in Damascus announced an intensification of its fight against the extremist militia after the start of the US air strikes. The country is reaffirming its determination to take action against IS, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said.

Two US Army soldiers and a civilian interpreter were killed in Palmyra, central Syria, on Saturday when an attacker from the terrorist group fired on a convoy of American and Syrian forces. According to US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the attacker was subsequently killed by allied forces. A U.S.-led coalition has carried out airstrikes and ground operations in Syria against suspected members of the Islamic State terrorist organization in recent months, often involving Syrian security forces.
