In Nigeria On Sunday, armed fighters kidnapped 28 people who were on their way to a Muslim celebration. Those affected wanted to attend a meeting to mark the anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Mohammed in Plateau state, Nigeria, an official report said on Monday. Women and children are also among those kidnapped.
Kidnappings by armed groups have occurred repeatedly in recent years, particularly in rural regions in the northwest and center of the country. Criminal gangs often use the kidnapped to extort ransom money. The gangs usually have their camps in a forested area that extends across several states.
