Chad shuts border with Nigeria over security fears, possible terrorist infiltration

The Government of Chad has announced the immediate closure of its border with Nigeria, citing heightened security concerns following reports of alleged U.S. military plans in response to Christian killings and genocide in parts of West Africa.

Military sources in N’Djamena, headquarters of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), confirmed on Monday that President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno ordered a total military lockdown along the Nigerian border after intelligence indicated that terrorist elements in northern Nigeria were preparing to flee into Chad.

According to sources, the Chadian army has been placed on full alert, with troops and armoured vehicles deployed across key border corridors linking the two countries.

Ogboinbiri youth leadership condemns unlawful actions amid community crisis

The Vice President of Ogboinbiri Federated Youths, Comrade Job Tarilayefa Alpheaus, has issued a strong statement alongside other executive members, addressing the ongoing crisis in the Ogboinbiri community of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.

In the statement, the youth leadership commended the Bayelsa State Government, particularly Governor Douye Diri, Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, and Southern Ijaw Local Government Chairman, Mr Target Isaiah Segibo, for their proactive roles in managing the situation and working to restore peace.

The group, however, criticised the Youth President, Mr Experience Pere, accusing him of disregarding the community’s constitution and allowing himself to be influenced by individuals allegedly plotting to destabilise Ogboinbiri.

Of President Trump’s fast, vicious and sweet attack and Tinubu’s diplomatic blunders

For years, rivers of innocent blood have flowed across the valleys of Plateau, Benue, Kaduna, and Niger States. Christian communities have been burned out of existence; churches razed on Christmas Eve have become an annual tragedy in Northern Nigeria.

Year after year, the scenes repeat as worshippers are slaughtered, homes torched, and survivors left to pick through their ashes in silence. Yet, successive Nigerian governments have treated these horrors with the indifference of a spectator.

From the mass killings in Barkin Ladi and Bassa, to the razing of the village of the Yelewata community in the Guma Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, including Rumji, Kurmin Masara, and Asha-Awuce, Kunkum Daji, all in Southern Kaduna, the story remains painfully the same. Attacks are announced in advance, no arrests afterward, and statements of “deep concern” that lead nowhere. What began as isolated incidents has grown into a sustained campaign of terror against defenseless citizens, particularly Christians.

Nathan Tamarapreye, Yenagoa

Niger Delta ex-agitators and other critical stakeholders have warned that the ongoing pull-down campaign against the Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr Samuel Ogbuku, will only take the region backwards.

Rising from their emergency meeting in Port Harcourt at the weekend, they called on traditional rulers and other stakeholders in the region to rally round Ogbuku and protect him from what they described as an orchestrated conspiracy to bring him down.

Debunking the myth of Ibibio hegemonic claim

#A critical analysis of attempt at cultural, territorial expansionism in A’Ibom State

In the intricate mosaic of Nigeria’s ethnic diversity, Akwa Ibom State stands as a microcosm of plural identity.

The state’s founding vision, rooted in equity and mutual respect among its constituent nations, notably the Oro-Obolo, Annang, Efik, and Ibibio, was to create a federation of equals, not a hierarchy of dominance.
