The USA wants Taiwan Deliver weapons worth a total of $11.1 billion. The Taiwanese Defense Ministry said it was the largest US arms package to date for the island. The package includes, among other things, Himars rocket launchers, howitzers, anti-tank missiles and drones.
The US Department of Defense announced that the arms delivery served the national, economic and security interests of the US USAby supporting Taiwan’s efforts to modernize its armed forces and maintain a credible defense capability. The US Congress is currently being notified of the project.
It is the second arms deal between the USA and Taiwan since the US President took office Donald Trump in January. At the time, US officials said they wanted to increase arms sales to Taiwan deter China. The US is also urging Taiwan to convert its armed forces to asymmetrical warfare, using smaller and more mobile weapons systems.
