A former Syrian prison guard is said to have been involved in abusing prisoners. The case is scheduled to go to trial in Germany.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office has filed charges against an alleged former guard at a Syrian secret service prison. The man is “accused of killing, torture and deprivation of liberty Crimes against humanity “sufficiently suspicious,” said the Federal Prosecutor General. He was also charged with murder in this context.
The charges were submitted to the State Security Senate of the Koblenz Higher Regional Court on December 10th. The accused was arrested in Pirmasens in May. He has been in custody ever since.
From April 2011 to 2012, the man is said to have worked in a prison run by the Syrian secret service in the capital Damascus. According to investigations, he was involved in more than 100 interrogations Prisoners severely physically abused became. At least 70 prisoners have died as a result of the mistreatment and catastrophic prison conditions.
