Russia has it Ukraine accused of an attempted attack on a residence of President Vladimir Putin and announced a change in his negotiating position. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Ukraine attacked the president’s state residence in the Novgorod region with 91 long-range drones on December 28 and 29, Interfax news agency reported. It was initially unclear whether Putin was in the residence at the time.

“Such reckless actions will not go unanswered,” Lavrov was quoted as saying. Russia will reconsider its position in possible negotiations, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Ukraine immediately rejected the allegations as lies. Russia wants to use the allegations to undermine progress in talks between Ukraine and the US, the president said Volodymyr Zelensky.
