No light, no internet, no heating – and that in snow and temperatures below zero. On Saturday morning, the power went out in 45,000 households in the south of Berlin. Most of them are still not connected back to the grid. According to the Berlin power grid operator, the disruption is expected to be resolved on Thursday.

The power outage was caused by a fire in a cable bridge over the Teltow Canal, which destroyed five high-voltage and ten medium-voltage cables. The fire was extinguished on Saturday morning.
