Courts shut down nationwide ahead of election presidential petition deadline

 

THE Lusaka High Court and several judicial complexes countrywide were closed yesterday, with armed police officers sealing off the premises, citing security reasons.

A spot check by News Diggers! at the Lusaka High Court, Ndola High Court, and Chelston Local Court, found armed security personnel guarding the premises, which were barricaded with a yellow police tape labelled “Crime scene Do Not Cross”.

In Eastern Province, the Chipata High Court was sealed off, while in Kasama, the court presmises were equally closed, bringing a halt to all court activities.

The closure of judicial institutions comes at a critical time of the seven-day deadline for filing a petition against the outcome of the recent presidential election. Losing NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile.
