The US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has contacts with the AfD downplayed. Part of his ministry’s work is to understand “the entire political spectrum” of other countries and inform President Donald Trump’s administration about it, Rubio said in Washington.
At the end of last week, at least 18 AfD politicians were in the USA traveled; ostensibly to hold political talks with American partners. Among them was the deputy AfD parliamentary group leader and foreign policy spokesman Markus Frohnmaier, who had accepted an invitation from the Republicans. Frohnmaier was received by Rubio’s Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy, Sarah Rogers.
Rubio said that such contacts do not automatically mean support from the USA in elections. However, if those responsible win elections, it would be useful to know something about them.
